I had the most beautiful experience and conversation last night, but before I get into that, I want to tell you about this amazing class that's available right in our area.
http://www.hypestudios.com/
Hype Studios is located in Torrance, California, and it offers a variety of classes. I was searching for a class that taught Michael Jackson's iconic moves, and after months of searching, I stumbled upon this studio which is the ONLY one that actually has a whole hour dedicated to all Michael & Janet Jackson's original choreography.
The class is called "Jackson Power Hour" and is on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Jackson Power Hour is taught by a wonderful, talented instructor/dancer/choreographer, Joey Cooper.
Initially, I was very intimated at the thought of attending this class because let's face it, Michael and Janet Jackson's moves are beyond this world and super advanced. However, once you step a foot into this class, all your fear and worries are out the door.
Joey Cooper is very warm, friendly and starts each class explaining what the class is all about. He explains to you that the studio initially thought of the class as just using Michael and Janet Jackson's music while learning hip hop or various moves. However, since Joey knows all the original choreography, having learned it from the Jacksons' choreographers themselves or some on his own by studying the music videos and live performances, he actually teaches the original choreography of the two greatest entertainers in the history of music.
The students taking the class aren't necessarily professional dancers, which means everyone is there because they want to learn, they love both Michael & Janet Jackson, and there is no competition whatsoever.
Each class, there is an air of mystery because you won't know until you go that day what choreography you will learn as he randomly picks the songs.
I am personally very familiar with Michael Jackson's music videos and all his dance moves, but I have a little more difficult digesting Janet Jackson's intricate choreography. Occasionally, when I see the choreography we are about to do, I think to myself "oh, it's not going to happen tonight", but to my great astonishment, at the end of each class, I actually do learn it and walk away with this great sense of accomplishment.
Each class is fun, different, unique and as you take more of his classes, you become more confident and accomplished as a person and a dancer.
The students in class can ask questions any time, and the pace of each class is just perfect!
It is truly amazing how Joey manages to teach us such complex yet beautiful choreography in an hour, and everyone in class walking away with something each time.
It is one of my happiest moments as I feel that I can forget all the troubles and escape to the world of Michael & Janet Jackson.
Last night, a fellow student and I had an awesome conversation with Joey Cooper. We thanked him for doing what he does, and how much it means to us.
Michael Jackson was/is all about peace, unity and love. He is recognized all over the world, even in the most remote places, and through his music and dance, we can bring unity among people all over the world, reduce violence and conflicts and together learn his dance moves.
I am so grateful that I get to learn from Joey, and that I am part of this wonderful movement to continue Michael Jackson's legacy through his music and learning his choreography.
I really wanted to share this with you, and I highly recommend you check out this class:

85 Degrees Bakery
One of my favorite things to do in life (sounds a bit dramatic, I know) is finding good pastry/bakery places. I know you LA folks know if Urth Caffe and possibly Torrance Cafe, but today, I want to tell you about this one fabulous bakery in Irvine (yes, Orange County).
I know how Angelenos can be reluctant to travel to Orange County, but I guarantee this bakery is definitely worth the drive!
It is located off the 405 S Exit Jamboree on Alton Pkwy. It's very easy to find, except the first time you go, you may be confused and lost in the shopping center since it is surrounded by many restaurants and markets.
85 Degrees is tucked away in the corner, but you can't miss it. The line for the bakery is conspicuously long.
Sometimes, you even have to wait in line twice, once to get the pastries and another to pay for them.
The first thing you do is grab a big tray and a pair of tongs, and from that point on, you can grab as many pastries as you want and crave. No one is rushing so you can take your time looking at each pastry and seeing which ones you want.
They have different types of break ranging from custard muffin to Hawaiian pizza bread. Every pastry is unique and suits different appetites. The breads/pastries aren't too sweet, which allows for seconds and thirds.
The staff is efficient, and while you are waiting in line, the staff will put your pastries in individual wrappers. It's a friendly place, and you are in and out of there quick, if there isn't 20-30 people in line waiting (which happens often).
I highly recommend this fabulous bakery, and please share your experiences!

Keep the Faith! (In non-religious context)
I read the news everyday, and I can't help how depressing the headlines are. Granted, the media is quick to report shocking, bad news in order to sensationalize rather than focusing on good, positive news. Try reading the daily headlines and count how the bad news often outsell the good news. It is no wonder the media often distorts the truth, but that is another point.
I wanted to post the lyrics to one of my favorite songs by Michael Jackson, Keep the Faith. He was always giving to different charities and making anonymous donations, but of course the media didn't want to portray him as this wonderful human being and one of the greatest humanitarians. Regardless, he kept moving forward with positivity.
I dedicate this entry to those who are struggling everyday, may it be making the ends meet, job hunting, overcoming health problems, and other tough circumstances.

Hateful Speech On the Internet - Must be Banned!
I've been thinking a lot about how much hate speech has increase on the Internet in the past decade.
Verbal, in-person hateful speech has been regulated and published, but now those same people who used to attack people verbally in person seem to be taking it online.
Case in point, I am astonished when I read about all the racist, sexist comments that are often made about the politicians and celebrities. They may be public figures, which means constructive criticisms about their behaviors and actions are allowed to be verbalized and stated. However, once these comments become personal and downright mean, they are considered hateful speech and can be punished.
Last week, one anonymous coward had the nerve to come up with a Twitter name that says "IHATE(celebrity name, which I won't reveal). I, along with other individuals on Twitter, took it as our responsibility to report this hateful person and had him/her removed from Twitter.
I often like to go under the comments page on several online publications and report hateful speech to the host. It is absolutely unacceptable! These same people that post such mean comments would NEVER have the guts to actually face the people they are talking badly about, let alone say these to their faces.
It's pretty simple: If it's something you wouldn't think of or even dare saying it to the person you are commenting about, don't hide behind your computer and post these comments online. You will be punished by the Internet Police and many anti-hateful speech volunteers such as myself.
Let's spread love, not hate.
What have your experiences been like with hateful speech? Has anyone ever posted anything on Facebook about you that you found insulting? What have you done to fix the problem?

You've Gotta Watch These!
I like watching drama-filled movies. No, I don't mean the type of "drama" that high school kids or drama queens talk about. I am referring to the movies that really make you think about human life and after watching them, you can come out with different perspectives on life and people.
Granted, movies that depict our reality can often be depressing or upsetting. However, when beautifully done, they can also make you be more grateful for the life you have and teach you about how others live, deal with everyday ordeals and show how beautiful/ugly life can be.
Some notable movies I want to recommend are the following:
"The Blind Side"
"Up in the Air"
"Personal Effects"
"Precious"
"Bella"
"The Broken English"
"El Norte"
"Under the Same Moon"
"Closer"
"Shopgirl"
Now to switch the gear a little bit, I absolutely love watching comedy!
Comedy can help lighten people's moods and prove an excellent escape, especially during times like this when people are losing their jobs, homes and feel a sense of anxiety or loss.
I highly recommend the following movies:
"Funny People" (Although this has some sentimental moments, it is pretty funny overall)
"40 Year Old Virgin" (Never gets old!)
"Office Space" (All professionals can relate to this movie in one way or another)
"Legally Blonde"
"I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry"
"Baby Mama"
"It's Complicated"
"Something's Gotta Give"
"Chris Rock: Never Scared (2004)"
"Coming to America"
TV Shows (Comedy):
"The Office"
"30 Rock"
"The Simpsons"
"The Family Guy"
"Robot Chicken"
Shows you can get on DVDs:
"Extras" (Everyone who has seen this show by Ricky Gervais says it is the funniest show ever!)
"The Office" (Original Britsh Version)
After a long, hectic week at work, it's time to treat yourself to some quality movies or Laugh-Out-Loud funny movies this weekend while not moving a muscle from your bed/couch!
ENJOY!!! :)

So You Want to Use Twitter But Don't Know How Eh? I'll Tell You!
I've been getting asked a lot of questions about how to use Twitter.
Twitter has started taking off since last year and has gained much popularity thanks to all the people (NERDS! j/k) tweeting away the latest news, trends and sharing ideas and comments.
Initially, when I joined Twitter, I thought it could be used as a job hunting tool. However, I quickly found that it's now the best source of that for professional jobs but more effective if the jobs are more domestic and temporary gigs.
Then, I tried using it as a status updating tool, such as the one Facebook provides. That only lasted about a week... for two reasons. Reason #1: No one's life is that exciting enough to be oversharing every single activity (i.e. "I'm grocery shopping" or "I'm watching XYZ movie"). Reason #2: NO ONE CARES what you are up to every single hour.
After two attempts at trying to use Twitter, I left it alone for a couple of months. Ok, maybe a few months.
Last summer, I had my breakthrough with Twitter! I realized that it could be used to connect with people around the world that share my common interests and taste in music, movies, and all forms of arts. I decided to stick to music since people have their favorite musicians and songs for which they aren't too whimsical with. So I started out narrowing down my favorite musicians (I won't name who they are) and started seeing which ones have strong fan bases on Twitter.
THEN came the passing of the King of Pop (or I would like to call him, King of Music), Michael Jackson. I have always been a big fan of his music and his entire artistry. I also realized he has the strongest fan base in the entire world.
Ever since last summer, I decided to use Twitter to connect with other MJ fans, write about the latest news and simply share my favorite songs, memories and moments with Twitter users.
Granted, it took some time until I started gaining some acknowledgement from other Twitter users, but now, I have a solid number of followers that RT and Reply to my tweets and share my thoughts with others, thus engaging in this huge online community of Michael Jackson around the world. I connect with people in Europe, Asia, South Africa and all over. It's a beautiful thing, indeed.
Some days, I OD on Twitter, but I absolutely love the site and if you know how to use it correctly and effectively, it sure will be one of your favorite sites soon.
Here are the top five tips I can give you that worked for me:
1) Use Twitter not only to share but to LISTEN. You would be amazed at how much information you can obtain from others, and how quickly you get it.
2) Pick a specific area of topic you want to tweet about. This is very important. Having a focused topic is the only way to gain some recognition, get followers and be part of the extensive online community.
3) Be consistent with your tweets. No one wants to follow/connect with others that aren't active and only tweet occasionally.
4) Be responsive to your followers. After all, they are following you to ask you questions and see what you have to say.
5) DO NOT post negative comments of any sort unless they are constructive critiques. Twitter shouldn't be used for your rants. Be smart.
Follow these tips and off you go on Twitter! I will see you there (if you can find me)!

White Collar on USA Network
I have a new favorite show!
White Collar on USA Network. USA Network has smart, witty shows, and I've always enjoyed the shows that put out to the audience. I had all the rave views this particular show got back in October when it premiered, and the buzz is totally worth it!
It's about a con-artist turned FBI consultant, Neal Kaffrey, who helps FBI agents (Peter, especially) find their criminals and solve mysteries, murders and etc. I love how smart the show is and the story lines. All the actors are very solid, and each holds his/her own!
I respect how they picked all the seasoned actors for the show, and the dialogue is witty. I absolutely love this hour-long show every Tuesdays at 10 pm on USA Network.
One thing I must add is that the main character Neal played by Matt Bomer is VERY good-looking. Watching his hot character is worth watching the entire show.

Manners = Can't buy 'em but can sure learn them!
I've been thinking a lot about manners. Just like you can't buy class, I noticed that you can't buy manners either. Some are just naturally well-mannered while others aren't. However, I firmly believe you can teach yourself manners.
I wanted to focus specifically on professional etiquette today. I came across this wonderful article online, and I thought it's especially useful for Gen Y professionals. While it is good to be assertive/aggressive go-getters, it's very important to follow the etiquette when dealing with your professional networks.
7 Professional Etiquette Tips
Next time you are going to professional networking events or simply having business lunches, remember these basic tips. Good manners will take you far, and no one wants to deal with ill-mannered people.

(Mis)Representation of the truth in the media
Today is truly a bittersweet day for all the Michael Jackson fans around the world, and perhaps the one that we all had been waiting for.
Dr. Murray will be charged with involuntary manslaughter in the untimely death of Michael Jackson. There are fans and MJ's family present at the courthouse supporting and showing love for MJ. He may have passed but he lives on in our hearts forever.
I am watching all the media coverage of this, and to be honest, I don't know what to believe. Just as MJ was brutally misrepresented in the 2005 trial, what if it's the same case with this doctor?
I am not saying he isn't guilty. He is. He neglected his one and only patient when timing was key in the case. However, I feel the media is really jumping to all the conclusions when the DA is now finally charging him with this.
As I am watching this unfold, I can't help but feel sad that Michael Jackson is no longer here with us. The doctor will face a trial and I believe justice will prevail. However, would that give us some comfort? Perhaps or perhaps not.
I hope that the media, while covering this, does NOT put Michael Jackson's name down the drain and try to paint him as a drug abuser. This is about a doctor's negligence of his patient, not what Michael Jackson was doing.
For once, I am asking the media to report the truth and facts and nothing but the facts. Please do NOT use this as an opportunity to insult or defame MJ. We will not tolerate that anymore.
"Lies run sprints but the truth runs a marathon" - Michael Jackson -
We will wait patiently for justice to prevail. In the process, however, let's be respectful. We are representing our beloved entertainer/artist and he represented love and peace. Let us represent him in that way.

Michael Jackson's beautiful kids' speech at the Grammys
This year's Grammys was a historical event in many ways, but for me personally, it was historical in that Michael Jackson's (The King of Music) kids, Prince Michael and Paris spoke on behalf of their daddy. His youngest child, Blanket, chose to stay backstage.
It was the first time EVER the whole world heard from Prince. WOW... his stage presence definitely took after his daddy. He spoke eloquently, and thanked God, MJ's fans and showed love for his daddy. I was quite surprised that his voice is so deep. He appeared calm and showed the world that they are doing well.
Paris Jackson looked very cute and is growing up to be a pretty young girl. They both dressed like their daddy, Michael Jackson, and spoke in front of the world. He must be so proud of them. He raised his kids so well. Not only do they know how to handle themselves well, they are also well-mannered, eloquent, mature and show kindness.
That was indeed the best part of the Grammys. Earth Song is one of my all-time favorite songs of Michael Jackson, and it was nice that they chose that particular song to spread the message of love and saving the planet.
Grammys topped other award shows by having Michael Jackson's own children speak and accept the Lifetime Achievement Award on his behalf. That was so wonderful!!
Michael Jackson raised all three of his children from birth and loved them very much. You can tell how much they were loved and how much they continue to be loved by their family. It's beautiful to see that.
As a big, true Michael Jackson fan, I am so thankful that we got to hear from his children tonight, and hope they know that we, MJ fans, will continue to love him unconditionally and carry on his legacy for the generations to come.
I love you, Michael Jackson! You are the greatest musician, artist, entertainment that ever lived in the history of music!!
