If I were a boy

Have you heard new Beyonce's song, "If I were a boy"

It's a mellow song, but I love its lyrics.

Sometimes women may look feminine on the outside, but inside, we are true warriors.

Beyonce's "If I were a boy"

If I were a boy
Even just for a day
I’d roll outta bed in the morning
And throw on what I wanted then go Drink beer with the guys
And chase after girls I’d kick it with who I wanted
And I’d never get confronted for it.
Cause they’d stick up for me.

If I were a boy
I think I could understand
How it feels to love a girl
I swear I’d be a better man.

I’d listen to her
Cause I know how it hurts
When you lose the one you wanted
Cause he’s taken you for granted
And everything you had got destroyed

If I were a boy
I would turn off my phone
Tell everyone it’s broken
So they’d think that I was sleepin’ alone
I’d put myself first
And make the rules as I go
Cause I know that she’d be faithful
Waitin’ for me to come home

It’s a little too late for you to come back
Say its just a mistake
Think I’d forgive you like that
If you thought I would wait for you
You thought wrong

But you’re just a boy
You don’t understand
Yeah you don’t understand
How it feels to love a girl someday
You wish you were a better man
You don’t listen to her
You don’t care how it hurts
Until you lose the one you wanted
Cause you’ve taken her for granted
And everything you have got destroyed
But you’re just a boy

What is going on with our economy?

Are we in recession?

Some refuse to say we are in recession, but judging from major financial institutions and law firms going under, we indeed are in an economic slump.

Today, another bad news occured in the legal field that Thelen is going down just a couple of weeks after Heller dissolved... These are huge law firms with hundreds of lawyers. How does that happen?

When Washington Mutual went down, I was quite surprised too. How in the world do these major financial institutions go under just like that?

I did not think that this financial meltdown would be affecting me or people around me too much, but I was wrong.

Go out to your local restaurants. They are EMPTY...
Go shopping to your nearest mall... The mall is not packed at all...
No one is traveling. The travel industry is suffering.
No one is buying. No one can save.

How depressing?!

Bills pile up, wages remain stagnant and we are worried about jobs...

This is indeed a miserable time for the majority of Americans.

Don't apologize for being strong

As a woman, I often think I should act as feminine as I look. However, I don't think I need to apologize for being strong and independent.

For all the strong, independent women out there who refuse to bow down, we are SUPERWOMEN! :)

From Alicia Key's song "Superwoman":

Everywhere I'm turning
Nothing seems complete
I stand up and I'm searching
For the better part of me

I hang my head from sorrow
state of humanity
I wear it on my shoulders
Gotta find the strength in me

Cause I am a Superwoman
Yes I am Yes she is
Even when I'm a mess
I still put on a vest
With an S on my chest
Oh yes I'm a Superwoman

Importance of teamwork

I was just thinking about how important team work is both professionally and socially. I believe that humans are selfish. It is our nature. However, when it involves more than yourself, compromise has to occur.

That's where team work comes in. Throughout our K-12 and even college years, we always had group projects where we were forced to work with other people. Almost everyone has the same story... one person in the group is the leader and there is always one slacker who does not do anything but adds his/her name to the project.

Even at our jobs, we have to work as a team for whichever department we belong to. We are forced to compromise, negotiate and cooperate in order to achieve the best results.

However, I did not realize how crucial team work is in personal lives. If a group of people want to do something together, there needs to be a cooperation from all parties involved. Not everyone will be pleased with the itinerary, but compromise must be made.

I don't think that a person can be successful without learning how to work with various types of people.

COME JOIN US IN PASADENA THIS SUNDAY for "Race for the Rescues"

3RD ANNUAL “RACE FOR THE RESCUES”
Animal Rescue 5K Run/Walk and Adoption Day

THE ROSE BOWL: SUNDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2008

JANE LYNCH (Best in Show) &
CARRIE ANN INABA (Dancing with the Stars)
To Co-Host Event

Marley from Marley & Me will be there too!!

Event Also Includes a Celebrity Art Auction, Pet Halloween Fashion Show & Adoption Event, Animal Communicator and Much More!

The Los Angeles animal-loving community’s premiere fundraising event, the “Race for the Rescues” 5K Run/Walk at The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, will be held this year on Sunday, October 26th. The 3rd annual event benefits non-profit animal rescue organization, The Rescue Train, as well as Best Friends Animal Society, Angels in Fur, Animal Alliance, A Dog’s Life Rescue, Four-Legged Friends Foundation, and Molly’s Mutts & Meows. Each year these groups rescue and find homes for over 1,500 abandoned Southland dogs and cats.

Lisa Young, Director of the Rescue Train, explains the extra significance of this year’s event : “The current state of the economy has made a crisis situation worse here in the City of Los Angeles. Even under normal circumstances, hundreds of dogs and cats are euthanized each week in our city shelters because we do not have enough homes. And with the terrible foreclosure situation here in the Southland, the shelters are being overrun with displaced pets. Euthanasia rates are up 28% this year. Thousands of beautiful, healthy animals are dying. It is our mission to bring the community together with the common goal to eliminate this suffering through hands-on rescue, education and awareness and to save as many of these precious animal lives as we can.”

Jane Lynch (Best in Show, 40 Year Old Virgin), race host since the 2006 inaugural event returns again this year. “Our rescued pets give us so much love and companionship, and the groups that save and help them are often short on the resources that would allow them to give these pets the best care they deserve and need. They truly are doing an admirable work, and I’m more than happy and honored to give them my support, " says Jane Lynch.

A new addition to the Race this year, Carrie Ann Inaba (one of the judges on the ABC-TV hit series Dancing with the Stars), is passionate about the cause of unwanted pets in our community. She says, “The solution, of course, is for everyone to spay and neuter their animals and eliminate the overcrowding that causes so many to end up in city shelters. But until we can make that a reality, it is our responsibility to care for all of the animals. That is why events like these are so vital.”

Last year’s event, a one-of-its-kind in Los Angeles to bring so many animal rescue groups together for this critical cause, had hundreds of participants and volunteers. This year’s turnout promises to be even bigger, bringing together dozens of Southland Girl & Boy Scout troops, school classes, corporate teams, families, and other groups for a day of fun and fundraising for our furry friends!

In addition to the 5K run and walk, Race for the Rescues will also feature:

Walk of Paws – A celebrity art auction featuring one-of-a-kind works created by celebrities and their pets. (Past participants include famous animal lovers Jessica Alba, Drew Barrymore, Jim Belushi, Courtney Cox, Paula Abdul, Jennifer Aniston, Charlize Theron, Carmen Electra, Famke Janssen, Amanda Peet, Lionel Richie and NBA legend Bill Walton.)
1 Mile non-competitive Kids Race.
Pet Halloween Adoption Event & Fashion Show – After showing off their Halloween best, these “spooktacular” pets from the Pasadena Humane Society/SPCA and Los Angeles Animal Services will available for adoption!
A silent auction featuring such items as tickets to TV show tapings, specialty pet products and services, spa packages, portraits, photography, jewelry, celebrity memorabilia, gift baskets, gift certificates for dining, travel and adventure experiences, and much more.
Kids’ Face Painting, Pet Psychic, Dog Training Demonstration, fun prizes and more!

Sponsors include Animal Specialty Group, Eye Care for Animals, Ekko Pet Products, Lara Bar, Deano’s Pizza, and RI Race Technologies. In addition, Animal Radio Network, the most-listened-to animal show in America, will broadcast live to over 95 AM/FM stations and XM Satellite Radio.

A Veterinary hospital for dogs in combat

I want to give my warm thank-you to Larkland Air Force base in Texas that just opened a $15-million veterinary hospital to treat dogs who are in combat (as many as 2,500).

These smart, well-trained dogs protect us and at times have even taken bullets for our soldiers. It's about time we recognize how wonderful these dogs are and have a hospital opened just for them.

Thank you!!

Do you Twitter?

Do you use Twitter?

Twitter may seem like a simple status updating tool, but it is turning out to be a great marketing and communications tool for companies.

New start-up companies can use Twitter to spread the word about their products and people while major companies can keep their clients and people posted on any news they may want to share.

It is an effective marketing tool, if used widely.

Web 2.0 is getting so much attention and there are many social networking sites getting created almost everyday, but Twitter is here to stay just like LinkedIn, Myspace and Facebook.

Unless, of course, some idiot decides to stalk Twitter users...

Jill Biden in the November issue of Vogue

I read an interesting and rather intimate article on the Bidens last night in the new issue of Vogue.

Vogue can be an elitist magazine that features things most people cannot afford and people who seem to have inherited their fabulous and wealthy lifestyles.

However, I do have to concede that Vogue writers are amazing journalists.

Last night, I read a piece about the Bidens, which largely focused on Jill Biden.
I did not know much about Joe Biden until he was chosen as Barack Obama's running mate, but he looks like a really good, genuine person. I can see it on his face. I think Obama made a smart choice picking an experienced veteran who understands the majority of the Americans' lifestyles.

After reading about Jill Biden, I have nothing but respect for her. She is a smart, strong and savvy woman!

Check out the November issue of Vogue and read this great article!
There are also some intimate photos of the Bidens. Beautiful :)

Lessons from Sex and the City

Once in a great while, there comes a TV show that is so revolutionary that it changes the way people think and create history.

Yes, I am talking about Sex and the City.

Not only did it celebrate being single and fabulous, but it also celebrated friendships and close bond that women share with each other. Also, it made it seem normal that we can buy $700 shoes for special occasions and for everyday use. (at least I thought so... hence my Manolos and Jimmy Choos ;) )

I noticed that I often can cite each episode as it relates to what I am going through in my life... let it be about my career, men, friendship, my self-esteem and etc.

Every episode carries a lesson in life that we can all relate to all four women in the show to a certain extent.

What do you think? What have your experiences been?

Also, if you haven't yet checked out the movie, you are MISSING OUT!!

For all the strong, independent women out there:
"If I worried about what every bitch out there was saying about me, I wouldn't be able to go outside" - Samantha Jones

Keep your head up and handle whatever comes your way because no matter what, there is a bright day ahead of us.

HAPPY FRIDAY!

TGIF!!!

Here is what is happening on this beautiful, sunny Friday:

1) Check out the video of this 11 year old girl who gets surprised by her dad coming home early from Iraq. It's awesome!

2) LA Times officially announces its endorsement for Barack Obama. Check out this well - written story as to why they are endorsing him.

3) California Teachers Assocation officially donates $1 million to say "NO" to Prop 8. They want to teach tolerance and love regardless of differences. Please vote "NO" on Prop 8. We have no right to tell our fellow gay and lesbian brothers and sisters they cannot marry. They have all the rights to marry and be happy.

What an eventful day already!

YOGA ROCKS!!

I do yoga on Thursdays :)

If I could afford it, I would love to hire a yoga instructor so that I can do yoga whenever and as often as I want.

That is expensive here in LA area so I go to yoga classes offered free of charge with a gym membership.

I don't really do cardio too much unless it is swimming because running on treadmills or other workout machines just sounds so tedious!!

Yoga not only helps me to relieve stress but also meditate and I can achieve peace. Its slow but intensive movements help me to relax yet get an amazing exercise.

I really like my instructor too. She has a soothing voice and allows us to meditate for 2 minutes after our session. :)

I am looking forward to it!!!

Friendships with animals

I saw a really touching TV segment last night. It was a monk in Korea who befriended a squirrel and not only did that squirrel stay on his head and body all day long but they were real friends.

The squirrel loved him and showed his/her affection for the monk. The monk fed him and was always looking after him. He made the squirrel a bed, a food table and a playground.

I thought that was really sweet :D

I believe in true friendships humans can and do have with animals... whether or not they are domesticated like dogs or wild like cheetahs, lions and squirrels.

It truly warms my heart to see this type of true friendship and how beautiful it is to share this world with our fellow animals and appreciate each other.

Samantha Who?

Tonight is the season premier of Samantha Who? on ABC.

I have become a big fan of this show. It is sassy and funny, and the clothes featured on the show are so cute :)

Additionally, Christina Applegate deserves respect for her bravery of fighting breast cancer and seeing the positive side of life. I admire her for that.

Watch it tonight on ABC at 9:30 pm!!

Christian Louboutins = Every working girl needs to treat herself to a pair ;)

I am a HUGE fan of Sex and the City.

As a result, not only did I go to New York on vacation but I also bought myself a couple of pairs of Manolo Blahniks :) They are great! a bit expensive ($600/each) but not too bad.

I also snapped a pair of Jimmy Choos. I am a shoe fanatic. I have more than 100+ pairs of shoes. Now, I am getting obsessed with Christian Louboutins.

They are very pricey (about $800/each or more), but they can be worn to work and everywhere else.

Perhaps for my birthday? I refuse to buy it with a credit card but rather cash so I can start saving...

What do you think?

I think it's very chic ;)

Need a stylish work wardrobe? check out Banana Republic!

Besides being a skilled, dedicated and a hard worker, you also need to present yourself well and dress the part. You know what they say: "Dress for the job you want, not what you have"

Therefore, I think it is important for professionals to build a professional image and a personal brand. Too often, I hear men and women say they simply don't care about how they dress because what matters is what they do. WRONG! People will notice and look at how you are dressed. Remember, you are representing your firm/company regardless of what you do for a living.

I am a very simple person. I like things to be simple. I also go for a classic, professional look when it comes to dressing for work. My #1 store for buying all the classic pieces for work is Banana Republic.

Their clothes are good quality, affordable work items that will last years. They make you look sophisticated and feel great!

Right now, there is even more reason to go. Why? They are having 30 to 50% off sales!!

Check it out and get back to me.

I always get compliments on how well I am dressed at work. You need to look great to feel great, and when people see that you take time to dress well and take care of your appearance, they will trust you with more work.

"That's what this multi-billion dollar industry is all about... inner beauty" - Nigel from the Devil Wears Prada... he is saying this sarcastically after hearing Andy Sachs saying she doesn't care how she looks like.

work/life balance

I have been thinking about this a lot lately, and I realized that professional women have a much more difficult time balancing work and life.

This happens especially among young professionals. I believe we have to pay our dues for few years and learn from much more experienced, older professionals. During this process, it is easy to get lost and devote all of our time into work and volunteer work. Granted, it is my choice, but sometimes I wonder if we are going to look back at our 20s and wonder where all the years went.

What do you think the solutions are for this?

I feel that I am so busy everyday. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE doing what I do. I enjoy it very much, but when do you have to "disconnect" and turn your blackberry off and just chill out?

TGIF!

IT'S FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Friday, everyone!

I was just thinking... I think one of the best moments in life is when people are engaged in a conversation about topics they are passionate about. Last night, I had a really interesting conversation with some of my fellow NAAAP members, and it felt great to be able to talk about different points of views.

Also, I learned I am capable of producing quality work with just 3 hours of sleep :)

Watch the debate tonight!!

Tonight is the night!

Watch the vice presidential debate Biden Vs. Palin!!!

This should be interesting...

Social Disconnection

I had a conversation with my best friend last night, and we somehow ended up talking about how with all the technological devices that make our lives easier and convenient also disconnect us from one another.

For example, everywhere I go, people are either talking on their cell phones or listening to their iPod. That leaves no room for strangers to interact. Everyone is in their own world. Granted, it brings us to our friends who may be thousands of miles away, but what about people that are right in front of you?

I admit I am guilty of this too. I check my blackberry constantly, but sometimes, I think it is nice to smile at strangers and strike up a conversation.

Who knows what you will learn?

Writing your own biography.. narcissistic?

I have to write a short bio about myself for an organization that I am joining to be posted on their website.

It got me thinking... is writing your own bio a bit narcissistic?

I am confident and happy to share my professional experiences, but writing a bio seemed like I was bragging about how wonderful I am.

I was just thinking about it...

Also, there was an article recently that said scientists can tell how narcissistic people are by looking at their Facebook profile pictures.

What do you think?

A new favorite reality show on BRAVO

I have officially become a fan of The Rachel Zoe Project.

I know. I know. She doesn't necessarily get the most positive press, but after seeing a couple of episodes of her new reality show on Bravo, I am starting to really like her work.

I mean, she does have a great job where she gets to meet with all the designers and work with the most beautiful clothes and shoes. She is a career driven woman and perhaps puts her career before her family too much, but according to several sociologists, the idea that you can have it all is not the reality.

Also, I love her new assistant, Brad. He has impeccable style and is so cute!! I would love to have him as one of my good friends! :)

Anyways, I wanted to let yall know to watch the show! You will laugh at how dramatic fashion industry people can get over nothing, but it's very entertaining!
